DETAILED TRACKLISTS
(Special thanks to Bomb1st members Filla and Dominator for samples credits)
CD1 :
01. Ambitionz Az a Ridah feat. Phil Brewster (intro) / Daz & Priest (keys)
- 1995/10/13 - 10/24 (piano added) - 11/21 (DJ Quik mixdown) - 01/08 (intro added). First recorded song when 2Pac went out of jail, first song of his album.
- Samples :
- The Champes - "Tequila" (melody interpolation)
- Joeski Love - "Pee-Wee's Dance" (drums interpolation)
02. All Bout U feat. Fatal, Kadafi, Nate Dogg, Snoop Dogg (speaking) & Dru Down (speaking) / Johnny J & 2Pac
- 1995/10/17 - 12/06 (DJ Quik final mix). Dru Down is a rapper from Oakland, the Bay Area. He released the successful Fools From The Streets in 93, re-released as Explicit Game in 94, mainly produced by Ant Banks and with many featurings from Luniz who became very successful the 31 of May 95 with their huge "I Got 5 On It" with also Dru Down, Shock G and Richie Rich as guests in their album. Maybe 2Pac initially invited Shock G to come and record with him...
- Samples :
- Cameo - "Candy" (melody)
03. Skandalouz feat. Nate Dogg / Daz
- 1995/10/17 - 11/27 (DJ Quik mix). One year after the release of Thug Life : Volume 1 with the success of "How Long Will They Mourn Me" single (recorded in spring 93), 2Pac logically wanted to work again with his new labelmate Nate Dogg.
- Samples :
- Dogg Pound - "Big Pimpin'" (bassline interpolation)
04. Got my Mind Made Up feat. Dogg Pound, Redman & Method Man / Daz
- 1995/11/06 (~). It is said that the song was initially a Dogg Pound song featuring Method Man, Redman, Inspectah Deck (verse leaked) and Lady of Rage (verse still unleaked).
- Samples :
- Run DMC - "Sucker M.C.s" (melody, vocals interpolation : "two years ago a friend of mine")
- Eric B. & Rakim - "Eric B. is President" (vocals interpolation : "taking off my coat, clearing my throat")
05. How Do U Want it feat. K-Ci & Jojo (Jodeci) / Johnny J
- 1995/10/15 (Danny Boy chorus ?) - 10/19 (Natasha Walker chorus)
- 12/18 (K-Ci & Jojo chorus added). Initially, the song is said to have Danny Boy, and a few days later, 2Pac gave the chorus to his friend Natasha
Walker (in a first mix, but there is also a final mix with her very close to this
one). 2Pac wrote that song before going to prison in late 94. So it can be seen as a recorded part of the original planned Euthanasia concept album.
- Samples :
06. 2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted feat. Snoop Dogg / Daz
- 1995/10/13 (?)
- 10/15-17 (Snoop added) - 11/27 (Quik final mix). It would be the second to three songs (or third) recorded by 2Pac the next day he was freed ! On the other hand, the structure of verses makes impossible for 2Pac to have recorded the song without Snoop... It is sometimes said that
the song "Wanted Dead or Alive" could have been recorded at that
time as an unsatisfying draft to this one. So maybe 2Pac recorded his verses from "Wanted Dead or Alive" the 13th of Oct. and the 15th or more likely the 17th Snoop came, and he recorded "Wanted Dead Or Alive", "2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted" and "All About U" outro.
- Samples :
- MC Fosty & Lovin' C - "Radio Activity Rapp" (vocals interpolation : "Blood, cuzz, gangbangers...")
07. No More Pain / Devante Swing (Jodeci)
- 1995/12/18. Devanté probably came at the same time than his partners K-Ci & Jojo and produced this song for 2Pac.
- Samples :
- Method Man - "Bring The Pain" (vocals interpolation)
08. Heartz of Men / DJ Quik
- 1995/11/07 - final Quik mix 11/20.
- Samples :
- Detroit Emeralds - "You're Gettin A Little Too Smart" (drumline)
- Fred Wesley & The Horny Horns - "Up For The Down Stroke" (piano, horns)
- DJ Quik - "Hoorah 4 Tha Funk (Reprise)" (vocals : "Hell muthafuckin yea !")
- Prince - "Darling Nikki" (vocals)
- Richard Pryor - "Jim Brown" (vocals : "Get outta way i'ma kick your ass")
- Richard Pryor - "Mudbone" (vocals : "bitch (?) and slapped me upside the head again")
- Richard Pryor - "Nigga with a seizure" (vocals : "everybody know one nigga that drinkin")
- Richard Pryor - "The Back Down" (vocals : "no heart for the fighting")
09. Life Goes On feat. Stacey Smallie / Daz
- 1995/10/23 - 12/03 (final mix). Stacey Smallie is strangely a very rare chorist. She gave her voice to "I Don't Like To Dream About Getting Paid" from Dogg Food and as Fuskee for Danny Boy's "Come When I Call (Remix)" in 95. She will also give backing singing in "These Days" of Nate Dogg (maybe recorded around the same time for his G-Funk Classics Vol. 1 album but also released in Gang Related soundtrack). She gives as well vocals to the Danny Boy "Welcome 2 Death Row" introduction the 28th of October 95... So she could have been with Death Row only in the year of 95, leaving for an unknown reason...
- Samples :
- The O'Jays - "Brandy (I Really Miss You)" (melody)
10. Only God Can Judge Me feat. Rappin' 4-Tay / Doug Rasheed
- 1995/10/26 - final mix 11/28. Doug Rasheed was the main producer for Y?N-Vee album in 1994 so he already recorded the unleaked "Don't Leave" with 2Pac. It is said 2Pac had the first idea and some lines of that song before going to prison.
- Samples :
- Audio Two - "Top Billin" (drumline interpolation)
- Bootsy Collins - "Hollywood Squares" (bassline interpolation)
- Kleeer - "Tonight" (vocal effects inspired)
11. Tradin' War Stories feat. Kastro, Edi, C-Bo, Napoleon & Storm / Mike Mosley & Rick Rock
- 1995/11/28.
- Samples :
- Randy Brown - "Too Little In Common" (melody)
12. California Love (Remix) feat. Dr. Dre & Roger Troutman / Dr. Dre
- 1995/11/04. The song was originally a Dr. Dre solo song featuring Roger Troutman, intended to be in Chronic II project album. But with the arrival of superstar 2Pac, Dr. Dre and Suge Knight decided to give the music to promote his upcoming album.
- Samples :
- Kleeer - "Intimate Connection" (drumline, bassline)
- Joe Cocker - "Woman To Woman" (melody)
- Ronnie Hudson & The Street People - "West Coast Pop Lock" (vocals interpolation)
- Zapp - "Dance Floor" (vocals interpolation : "shake, shake it baby, shake it")
13. I Ain't Mad At Cha feat. Danny Boy / Daz & Soopafly (keys)
- 1995/10/13 - 11/21 (DJ Quik mix). Recorded the first day when 2Pac arrived to Death Row.
- Samples :
- DeBarge - "A Dream" (melody interpolation)
14. What'z Ya Phone # feat. Danny Boy / Johnny J & 2Pac
- 1995/11/16 - final 12/12. The original version of the song has a totally different sample playing all around the song (maybe difficult to clear).
- Samples :
- Morrid Day & The Time - "777-9311" (concept, drums, melody, vocals interpolation)
CD2 :
01. Can't C Me feat. George Clinton / Dr. Dre
- 1995/11/02. Like for "California Love" and "Got My Mind Made Up", the song is said to have been originally a Dr. Dre solo song featuring George Clinton and then a Dogg Pound song recorded in 1995/10/07, before Death Row gave it to 2Pac.
- Samples :
- Funkadelik - "Knee Deep" (bessline interpolation, synthesizer interpolation)
- Parliament - "Big Bang Theory" (vocals interpolation)
- Ice Cube & Flavor Flav - "I'm Only Out For One Thang" (vocals : "yo check this out")
- Ice Cube - "Get Off My Dick And Tell Yo Bitch To Come Here" (vocals : "stay off his dick")
02. Shorty Wanna Be a Thug / Johnny J
- 1995/10/15 - 12/18 (final mix). With "Picture Me Rollin" and "How Do U Want It", it is the first song recorded with Johnny J after 2Pac was freed. So he quickly answered to the invitation of 2Pac. It is said 2Pac wrote that song before going to prison, so it could be considered as a part of the original Euthanasia concept album.
- Samples :
- Hank Crawford - "Wildflower" (melody, saxo)
03. Holla at Me feat. Nanci Fletcher / Bobby "Bobcat" Ervin
- 1995/10/31 - 11/04 (new beat & chorus added). First version has a totally different beat and no chorus.
04. Wonda Why They Call U Bytch feat. Michel'le / Johnny J & 2Pac
- 1995/10/17-19 (Faith Evans)
- 11/25 (Michel'le added). Original version had Faith Evans at the
chorus (Biggie's wife). She came in October to see 2Pac
- just a few days after he was freed - and recorded with him (there is a picture with also Treach with them). Then 2Pac fucked her and claimed it in "Hit Em Up".... Strange fact and some
kind of revenge act for 2Pac against his old friend. But Death Row
couldn't let release this version and credit the Bad Boy artist... It would have been such a proof to the Faith's adultery !
- Samples :
- Paul Simon - "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" (melody/drums)
05. When We Ride feat. Hussein, Kastro, Napoleon, Big Syke, Edi, Kadafi & Mopreme / Dj Pooh
- 1995/10/27-30. The song has the whole new group called Outlaw Immortalz aka Thug Life + Dramacydal + Fatal N Felony. DJ Pooh had already produced the still unleaked "Ghost" original and the first 2Pac "St. Ides" in late 92 / beginning of 93. He is also said to have produced "Wanted Dead or Alive" and "St. Ides 2" featuring Snoop Dogg, so maybe they recorded these songs around that same period...
- Samples :
- Black Heat - "Zimba Ku" (drumline)
- Funkadelik - "Knee Deep" (vocals interpolation)
- Dogg Pound - "What Would You Do ?" (vocals)
06. Thug Passion feat. Kastro, Kadafi, Edi, Storm & Jewell / Johnny J & 2Pac
- 1995/11/13.
- Samples :
- Zapp - "Computer Love" (bassline interpolation, vocals interpolation)
07. Picture Me Rollin' feat. Danny Boy, Big Syke & CPO / Johnny J
- 1995/10/15 - 11/26 (final mix). This song re-uses the beat from Johnny J "Better Off" from his album I Gotta Be Me from 94. CPO was initially a group who released the album To Hell And Black in 1990, almost entirely produced by MC Ren. Then Boss Hogg went on solo, followed Dr. Dre to Death Row (giving verses and songs for The Chronic, Above The Rim, Murder Was The Case) but keep on being credited as CPO.
- Samples :
- Kool & The Gang - "Winter Sadness" (melody)
- Eric B. & Rakim - "I Ain't No Joke" (drumline interpolation)
08. Check Out Time feat. Kurupt, Big Syke & Natasha Walker / Johnny J & 2Pac
- 1995/11/06 - 16 (Natasha added).
- Samples :
- Minnie Riperton - "Baby, This Love I Have" (bassline, melody interpolation)
09. Ratha Be Ya Nigga feat. Richie Rich & Puff Johnson / Doug Rasheed
- 1995/10/26 - 12/14 (final mix).
Puff Johnson was already singing in "Me Against The World". She also
recorded "U Can Call" and "M.O.B." chorus for 2Pac around the same day. She released the R&B album Miracle in 1996 notably produced by Jermaine Dupri and mainstream R&B producers Bob Robinson and Keith Thomas.
- Samples :
- Bootsy Collins - "I'd Rather Be With You" (melody interpolation)
10. All Eyez on Me feat. Big Syke / Johnny J
- 1995/10/14 - 10/26 (final mix).
- Samples :
- Linda Clifford - "Never Gonna Stop" (melody)
11. Run Tha Streetz feat. Storm, Napoleon & Michel'le (chorus) / Johnny J & 2Pac
- 1995/10/31 - 11/31 (Storm added ?). First version had a totally different music. Another version is without Storm but with an Edi verse.
- Samples :
- Guy - "Piece of My Love" (melody interpolation, chorus interpolation)
12. Ain't Hard 2 Find feat. E-40, B-Legit, C-Bo & Richie Rich / Mike Mosley & Rick Rock
- 1995/11/22 (Bay Area added 11/25).
13. Heaven Ain't Hard 2 Find / QD3
- 1995/12/10. Around the same period, QD3 and 2Pac recorded "Tear Drops and Closed Caskets" and "Letter 2 Tha President". QD3 will also produced many songs for Makaveli album.
- Samples :
- Bobby Caldwell - "What You Won't Do For Love" (melody interpolation)
14. BONUS California Love feat. Dr. Dre & Roger Troutman / Dr. Dre
- 1995/11/02. This song was a bonus track in European editions of the album. It is also the single version out the 3rd of December of 95.
- Samples :
- Joe Cocker - "Woman To Woman" (melody)
- Ronnie Hudson & The Street People - "West Coast Pop Lock" (vocals interpolation)
- Zapp - "Dance Floor" (vocals interpolation : "shake, shake it baby, shake it")
